Pour l'année modèle 1968, la face avant est assez profondément modifiée, avec une calandre en aluminium qui intègre désormais les optiques avant. D'autres améliorations significatives seront apportées, avec notamment une nouvelle planche de bord ainsi que des vide-poches intégré côté passager, sans compter une boîte de vitesses désormais entièrement synchronisée. A noter que la Renault 4 fourgonnette devra attendre une année de plus pour adopter cette calandre, particulièrement élégante, et d'ailleurs la plus prisée en collection.
